On October 30th, students from 2019 Industrial Design (Design Economics) of Business School of Shenzhen Technology University visited the Shenzhen Industrial Museum and Shenzhen Contemporary Art and Urban Planning Museum. The students learned about the practice of various enterprises in product innovation, intellectual property advantage building and brand establishments, actively explored the unknown fields and felt the collision between traditional technology and modern technology.

At the beginning of the visit, students came to the most science-fiction place in Shenzhen——Shenzhen Industrial Museum. There are 9 floors in the pavilion. The 4-9 floors are sci-fi cylindrical rotating stairs, which are decorated by neon lights, with the bizarre cyberpunk feel in the movieBlade Runner. As the first city that won the title of "Design Capital" in China, Shenzhen presents the outstanding achievements in the process of industrial design development in this hall, while publicizing and promoting Shenzhen's industrial economic achievements.

On the fourth floor Mr. Zhao Jianfei introduced the robot industry innovation achievements exhibition as a volunteer. Mr. Zhao introduced the achievements of the robot industry in the exhibition hall one by one. DJI, Dazu laser, Uber and other enterprises, whose products developed quickly and played an very important role in the global market. The products showed in the exhibition hall are the epitomes of Shenzhen's industry and technology, recording the rapid development and extraordinary achievements of Shenzhen over the past decades. The students were deeply impressed by the progress of the development in the industrial field in Shenzhen.

In the afternoon, the students came to the Shenzhen Contemporary Art and Urban Planning Museum. The pavilion is operated and managed in a "two-in-one" mode and is designed by the "Blue Sky Pioneer" Austrian deconstruction Group (Coop Himmelblau). The building unifies the two separate functional organizations of the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Urban Planning Museum under the skin of the same building, and shares part of the public service space. Students visited the "40th Exhibition of Guangdong Reform and Opening", "The Second National Industrial Art Exhibition", "Shenzhen Urban Planning Exhibition" and "Popular Culture and Creative Products Exhibition ".

The first sentence you can see when going into the museum is "The tide from the Pearl River". This is a city that highly concentrates the essence of an era. Here, we can listen to the wind, raining, songs from insects and frogs, and even hear the pulse of the land of Shenzhen. Here, we can also see the surprising development process of Shenzhen in the past 40 years, from an unknown town to a modern international city with 20 million people. Shenzhen has miraculously risen in southern China, blooming its own dazzling brilliance.

Industrial art is "the root of literature and art" and "down-to-earth art". In the first floor, "Intellectual creation——the second national arts and crafts exhibition", is divided into six parts such as "carving "show, thousands of "paint", fine "woven", colorful "glass", perfect" gold ", pleasure" ornaments ". And in the exhibition about 270 pieces (groups) of works were on display, including embroidery, carving, lacquer, glass craft, metal craft, etc. These works comprehensively represent the current innovations on arts and crafts creation in Chinese and the students have acquired a lot from the exhibition.

The future and creativity will continue to grow in this city, and our reflection on design, innovation, questioning and overlooking will never stop.

Visit Experience:

Fu Yixiao:During the visit to the Contemporary Art and Urban Planning Museum, what shocked me most was the 40th anniversary of Guangdong's Reform and Opening Exhibition. In fact, reform and opening is also a kind of successful innovation and entrepreneurship. "The tide from the Pearl River", a circle drawn in 1978, made Guangdong become the pioneer of reform and opening. It is also here where China's innovation and entrepreneurship started officially. The establishment of special economic zones facilitated the vitality of economic development. Land transaction, stock trading and other new things happened. These historic moments explained what was the innovative spirit of "being the first in the world". Reforming is the root of Shenzhen, innovation is the soul of Shenzhen, and there is no gap between Shenzhen and the modern world. This momentum of innovation pushedMade in Chinato be the worldwide brand. Even though 40 years have gone reform and opening is still an important topic in the new era. It will continue to play an important role in the practice of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Nie Jinglong:The exhibition impressed me deeply about the importance of intellectual property protection. The exhibition area is full of robots, chips and other high-tech industrial products developed by the great high-tech enterprises in China. The products are the crystallization of the painstaking efforts of the great enterprises and outstanding engineers. How to protect these high-tech technologies from being stolen and falsely used? Theses intellectual outcomes shall be protected only by intellectual property laws. In the future all kinds of industrial products are bound to blossom everywhere with the development of science and technology. Then the intellectual property protection will be popularized to everyone, such as patent application, trademark registration, copyright protection, in order to meet with the innovation-driven development strategy.

Sun Yijia:As a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics and a "design capital", Shenzhen is a city with innovative spirit, encouraging innovation and the protection of innovation. The judicial system construction concerning innovation protection and intellectual property protection is also quite perfect. As the students in Shenzhen, we should also innovate unremittingly; as designers, we should also keep up with the "design capital" and make more innovative and good design.

On the first floor, we visited the exhibition of arts and crafts works and realized the extraordinary expression of the compilation, embroidery, metal, jewelry, ceramics, glass and other creative media. In the process of reading the works, I communicated with the artists, felt about the artists' complex and deep thinking about life, society and the world, and gained the visual and spiritual enjoyment and pleasure of beauty.

Zhou Lingyu:When visiting the industrial art exhibition, I found for the first time that the materials that we are used to in our daily life can become colorful in the hands of artists. Artists are constantly exploring the possibility of new forms of expression of materials. Taking the glass in the exhibition hall as an example, some glasses are pure white, some are injected paint which spread freely in it, and some are merged with glass of different colors and different polish- degree to show the colorful image of daily life. The glass of each piece is different, even on the same theme. I hadn't previously thought that ordinary glass would become so flexible among artists.

To be a designer, I think that originality is the basic principle. No matter whether the final effect is good, the designer shouldn’t copy others. Even if the theme is the same, even if the work is high-tech or low-handwork, it must be original. In the following design works, we can research the works what others have done in the same theme, create new ideas and find new ways, and finally finish our own design.
