To build a bridge between theoretical knowledge and industrial practice, and help students gain an in-depth understanding of the cutting-edge trends in financial database construction and data company operation management, on November 21, 2025, Professor Lin Fangying from the Business School of Shenzhen Technology University specially invited Mr. Cao Wenhua, General Manager of oRData, to give a wonderful lecture themed "Financial Database Construction and Data Company Operation Management Practice" for students taking the Statistics course in Room C5-101.
Starting with the development practice of oRData, General Manager Cao Wenhua systematically introduced the company's core strength and business layout. Founded in Futian, Shenzhen in 2017, oRData is a provider of basic data research and consulting services. It is deeply engaged in the exploration of global commercial data technology, independent and objective rating, and risk assessment research, striving to become a world-leading data science and business consulting service enterprise. The company boasts a strong core team: 50% of the members have professional backgrounds in international accounting, finance, and economics, and hold professional certificates such as CPA, CIIA, and FRM; the other 50% are technical talents in fields such as big data, machine learning, and data mining. With more than 20 invention patents and software copyrights, oRData provides high-quality data services to users.
In the core business sharing session, Mr. Cao focused on analyzing oRData's database construction system and practical cases. He mentioned that centering on the national strategy of "Digital China", the company has built a business system oriented towards three major entities — universities, financial markets, and the government, and developed characteristic data products such as the Global Listed Enterprise Database, Global Industrial Chain Database, and Macroeconomic Database. Taking the Global Industrial Chain Analysis Database as an example, it is built based on the self-developed "Global Listed Enterprise Database", forming a complete structure of "Seven Databases and Three Chains". It covers comprehensive and accurate data on industrial value chains, enterprise supply chains, and product production chains, and can meet diverse application scenarios such as industry research, investment analysis, academic research, and auxiliary teaching.
In response to the research needs of universities, oRData has also collected and sorted out digital economy development data. The data sources include authoritative channels such as the National Bureau of Statistics and provincial statistical yearbooks, covering multiple core indicators such as the number of international Internet users and the Digital Inclusive Finance Index. It has provided data support for many scientific research projects, includingmanyUniversity Libraries,National Natural Science andSocial Science projectsinChina.
When talking about the key links in financial database construction, combining years of industry experience, Mr. Cao disassembled the core logic and technical key points of database production from the entire process of user demand research, feasibility analysis, project approval and execution to product launch. He emphasized that the in-depth application of artificial intelligence and big data technologies is crucial to improving the efficiency and accuracy of data processing, while rigorous data governance and quality control are the core guarantees for the vitality of the database. Combining the statistics course, Mr. Cao closely linked the speech with data analysis process, sharing insights through a case-based approach.
In the interactive Q&A session, teachers and students actively raised questions regarding the authority guarantee of database data sources and the career development path in the data industry. Mr. Cao gave detailed answers one by one combined with the company's practical cases. In response to the question concerned by students — "What core skills should data major students possess?", he suggested that students should not only consolidate their professional foundation but also enhance their learning ability, cross-disciplinary knowledge integration ability and communication skills, while paying attention to the accumulation of practical experience.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Lin Fangying expressed her sincere thanks to General Manager Cao Wenhua for his sharing. She stated that the content of this lecture is both professional and practical. It not only allowed students to deeply understand the technical logic and industry trends of financial database construction but also clearly presented the development prospects and career requirements of the data industry, which has important guiding significance for students' professional learning and career planning.
Students who participated in the lecture unanimously said that through this sharing, they effectively bridged the gap between classroom knowledge and industrial practice, and gained a more intuitive understanding of the core business and operation management of the data industry. In the future, they will combine the knowledge learned with industry needs, continuously improve their competitiveness, and make preparations for engaging in the development of the data field.
