Between10:15 a.m.and 11:40 a.m. on October 14, 2024, at the invitation of Assistant Professor Liu Yijiao from the School of Business, Dr. MingLiu, Senior Research Fellow of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) and Executive Director of the Data Economy Center of the Shenzhen Institute of Data Economy, gave this special lecture to the students majoring in Financial Management at Grade 23 in room C5-429.

Dr. Ming received his doctorate from the University of Maryland, USA, and has worked in the field of big data and artificial intelligence for many years. His research results have been widely used in e-commerce platforms, social platforms, intelligent manufacturing and supply chains, and have made outstanding contributions to the development of the data economy.

In the lecture, Dr. Ming deeply analyzed the historical background of artificial intelligence, explained the various stages of artificial intelligence development and the internal logic.Dr. Ming pointed out that the period of 2010-2022 is the explosive development stage of artificial intelligence, and the development of artificial intelligence mainly relies on "computing power","algorithms" and "data". In which algorithms act as brains, computing power plays the role of muscles, and data provides nourishment for the development of artificial intelligence.

Dr. Ming used Didi as an example to explain how artificial intelligence is affecting our lives. Dr. Ming pointed out that artificial intelligence can improve the efficiency of work through algorithms, but at the same time, it will blindly pursue interests and lack humanistic care. At present, artificial intelligence plays a very important role in many fields such as intelligent travel and online shopping, but there is still a big gap in the medical field.

Dr. Ming then explained the logic behind the large language model. Among them, the self-attention mechanism is the key to the success of the large language model, which enables the large language model to achieve multiple rounds of conversation. Further development of large language models is currently hampered by a lack of high-quality data.

Finally, Dr. Ming shared the extent to which AI is impacting various industries. Dr. Ming proposed that no matter what industry you are engaged in, you must learn to use artificial intelligence correctly so that you will not be replaced by artificial intelligence. At the same time, Dr. Ming made suggestions for our employment choices, hoping that we could choose the right industry direction and accumulate industry experience.

Through this lecture, the students had a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence and a clearer understanding of how to combine artificial intelligence with their professional knowledge. After class, students exchanged ideas with Dr. Mingdim on issues such as "employment of AI product managers" and "how to learn artificial intelligence by yourself." Dr. Mingdieng's sharing provided us with valuable ideas and perspectives, and also helped us in our future career planning.
