From June 19 to 23, 2024, the 74th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association (ICA) was held in Gold Coast, Australia. Assistant Professor Xu Duan from our School was invited to attend the conference as the first author of two papers and to chair a session on advertising. The ICA Annual Conference is one of the three largest and most prestigious academic conferences in the field of communication studies, known for its scale, history, and influence. It is organized annually by the International Communication Association and covers multiple research areas, including advertising, information systems,communication and technology. Established in 1950, the ICA publishes top-tier SSCI journals such as theJournal of Communicationand theJournal of Computer-Mediated Communication, featuring work by scholars in communication, business, information science, and other disciplines.
Assistant Professor Xu Duan delivered presentations as the first author of two papers:Vlog Advertising: An Integrative Model of Understanding Relationship-Building and Advertising Effects in VlogsandVlog My Life: How Vloggers’ Self-Disclosure and Co-Creation with Followers Influence Relationship-Building and Advertising Outcomes. These were presented at two major sessions, “Advertising Unveiled: Narratives, Social Media, and Advertising Dynamics in Modern Campaigns” and “Information Systems and Considerations in Advertising,” both of which were key components of the conference.
Moreover, Assistant Professor Xu Duan chaired the session “Advertising Unveiled: Narratives, Social Media, and Advertising Dynamics in Modern Campaigns,” where she joined scholars from institutions such as the University of Florida, the University of Miami, and Tsinghua University to discuss topics related to social media influencers and advertising effectiveness, contributing the Chinese perspective to the discussions.
