GAC-CATL Power Battery System Co., Ltd. ("GAC-CATL"), located within the Guangqi Intelligent New Energy Vehicle Industry Park, is a leading battery manufacturer jointly established by Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., Guangqi Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (formerly Guangqi New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd.), and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL). Founded on December 28, 2018, the company boasts a registered capital of 1 billion RMB, specializing in the development, production, and sale of lithium-ion batteries, power batteries, and energy storage batteries. The total project investment amounts to 4.23 billion RMB, covering an area of 407 acres, with a building area exceeding 200,000 square meters.
On September 19, 2023, a delegation from Shenzhen Technology University, including Professor Holger Haldenwang, Honorary Dean of the School of Business, Assistant Professor Ding Zhuoqi, Professor Franz Raps, Dean of the School of Urban Transportation and Logistics, Associate Professor Chen Liqun, and Professor Han Peigang, Dean of the School of New Materials and New Energy, along with Professor Wu Xu, Director of Research and Industry Collaboration, visited GAC-CATL Power Battery System Co., Ltd. The visit included an on-site inspection of GAC-CATL's production lines and in-depth discussions on collaboration between the university and the company.
After visiting the production lines, both parties engaged in further discussions regarding collaboration opportunities. Professors Holger Haldenwang, Franz Raps, and Han Peigang introduced the university's distinctive educational features and student characteristics to the company. Assistant Professor Ding Zhuoqi remarked, "Shenzhen Technology University's collaboration with companies in student development is already very close. Companies can participate in formulating student training programs, allowing our students to better meet the talent needs of businesses. This collaboration model breaks away from traditional training methods, giving our students a distinct advantage in the job market."
The company expressed a keen interest in university-industry collaboration. Considering Shenzhen Technology University's unique international educational philosophy, the company suggested establishing connections and cooperation between the university and the battery factory currently under construction by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) in Debrecen, Hungary. This collaboration aims to assist CATL in pre-emptively building its technical and business talent pool, facilitating its overseas expansion goals.
This university-industry exchange and visit have laid a solid foundation for collaboration between Shenzhen Technology University and GAC-CATL Power Battery System Co., Ltd. It is expected to yield more beneficial cooperation opportunities in the future, contributing jointly to the advancement of the new energy automotive industry. This development signifies significant progress in the university's internationalization efforts and its close ties with the industry, actively contributing to the cultivation of high-quality talents and the promotion of technological innovation.
