On the morning of October 29, 2025, the Business School of Shenzhen Technology University hosted a compelling lecture in classroom C5-359. Organized by Assistant Professor Yang Qiulin of the Business School, the event featured a special invitation to Mr. Yang Jin, Executive Director for Greater China at CSOP Asset Management, who delivered an in-depth presentation on "The Application of AI and Data Science in the Financial Industry."
To begin the lecture, Mr. Yang Jin provided the students with a macroscopic overview of the financial industry. He clearly outlined the core functions and distinctions among central banks, commercial banks, and investment banks, with a special focus on the business ecosystem of investment banking. Subsequently, he delved into the internal "front, middle, and back office" departmental divisions within financial institutions, helping students gain a concrete understanding of the responsibilities and collaborative models of different roles, which provided a clear framework for their future career choices.
After establishing this foundational knowledge, the lecture shifted its focus to the technology-driven transformations in the industry. Mr. Yang systematically explained the operational models of public and private funds and, using detailed case studies, vividly demonstrated how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science play a pivotal role in areas such as quantitative trading, risk management, and robo-advisory, revealing how data-driven decision-making has become a core competency for modern financial institutions.
The lecture hall was filled to capacity, with a strong academic atmosphere. The session became particularly lively during the interactive segment, where Mr. Yang provided a live demonstration on how to use AI tools to efficiently track the latest market trends, seamlessly bridging cutting-edge theory with practical application. Students also eagerly asked questions about topics such as career planning and core skill development in the age of AI. Drawing from his personal experience, Mr. Yang answered the students' questions with patience and detail and encouraged them to build a solid business foundation while actively embracing the wave of technology to become well-rounded professionals with interdisciplinary expertise.
The Business School at Shenzhen Technology University will continue its commitment to building high-level platforms for academic exchange.
