In order to promote the practical teaching work of the university and strengthen the supervision and guidance on the quality of students' internship, Jack WOO, Associate Professor of the School of Business, went to Lixin Dehao Taxation Firm (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. to pay a visit to Chen Wenhui, a student of the class of 2022, who is undergoing an internship in the enterprise, and had a discussion and exchange of views on the topics of internship arrangement, talent cultivation and cooperation between the university and the enterprise with the representatives of the enterprise.
The visit started at 10:30 on 21st May, and Associate Professor Jack WOO had a meeting with the head of the HR department, the management of the student's department and the tutor. During the meeting, Associate Professor Jack WOO briefly introduced the background and objectives of the school's internship programme, and explained the importance of matching the practical orientation of the current finance and economics majors with the needs of employers in the training of talents. Enterprises also introduced the company's development, business direction and training mechanism for interns, and shared their evaluation of the overall quality of our students in light of their on-the-job performance.
According to the feedback from the teachers, Chen Wenhui performed actively and conscientiously during the internship, completed all the tasks undertaken better, and would improve in time when encountering problems. At the same time, the relevant person in charge of the enterprise pointed out that the current industry has a growing demand for high-quality talents with strong practical ability, and still tends to employ students with relevant internship experience and a deeper understanding of the position in the recruitment. In the future, we hope to explore more in-depth co-operation with the school in terms of curriculum co-construction, talent orientation training and internship preaching.
During the discussion, the two sides also had in-depth exchanges on topics such as the match between the internship cycle and the curriculum arrangement, the work rhythm of the industry and the adaptability of the students, and the trend of the application of new technologies, especially AI tools, in the business. The enterprises put forward some common problems encountered in the current internship management, and also expressed their willingness to further strengthen the communication mechanism with the school, which was highly agreed by Associate Professor Jack WOO, who put forward positive suggestions to promote the formation of a new mode of talent cultivation with the complementary integration of ‘on-campus training + off-campus practice’.
The site visit further deepened the college's understanding of students‘ internship dynamics, strengthened the communication and collaboration with employers, and provided valuable reference for improving the internship guidance system and enhancing students’ employability.
