BS Forum--Towards the Era of Infinite Intelligence

At the invitation of Assistant Professor Liu Yijiao from the Business School, Professor Cheng Shenghui, a professor and doctoral supervisor from the School of Journalism and Communication at Jinan University, delivered an engaging lecture on the afternoon of May 7, 2024, in Classroom D3-205 of the Business School. This lecture was targeted at students from the 2023 Marketing cohort and the 2022 International Business cohort.

The event was jointly organized by the BS FORUM and the AI Working Group of the Business School at Shenzhen University of Technology and was chaired by Professor Nick Webber. Dean Holger Haldenwang of the Business School delivered a speech during the event. The faculty members participating includedAssociate Dean Cheng Yun,Associate Professor Zhou Yuanjie, Associate Professor Anis Bensadi, Associate Professor Janghyuk Limand, Associate ProfessorLutz Philip Hecker. 

The lecture primarily focused on the rapid advancements in intelligent technology and its profound potential impacts on future societies.

Professor Cheng has distinguished influence in both the global technology and academic communities. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and conducted research at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and Harvard Medical School. He has also served as a consultant for the Digital Economy Unit at the World Bank Headquarters and held editorial and committee positions in several prestigious journals and conferences. As an inventor holding numerous domestic and international patents, his primary research areas include visualization, digital communication, and artificial intelligence.


The lecture covered cutting-edge technologies such as the metaverse, Web 3.0, AI-generated content (AIGC), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and ChatGPT. It delved into how these technologies could collectively shape a future of boundless intelligence and bring revolutionary changes to work, communication, and entertainment. Professor Cheng particularly highlighted the immersive virtual experiences offered by the metaverse and the applications of Web 3.0 in enhancing data security and protecting user privacy.

After the lecture, students showed keen interest and actively participated, posing in-depth questions and engaging in vibrant discussions with Professor Cheng. This interaction not only enhanced the interactivity of the lecture but also deepened the students' understanding and contemplation of the topics discussed.


Through this lecture, students gained a more profound comprehension of intelligent technology and a clearer foresight into the trends of future technological developments and their potential transformative impacts on societal structures and economic models. Moreover, the key considerations of technology ethics and social progress sparked extensive thought and lively debate among the students.
