In order to cultivate the academic strategy and emotional navigation under the guidance of ideology and politics, the Business School held the first course of Ideology and Politics for all the freshmen of the 2023 cohort in the afternoon of October 10, 2023 in C1-105. The core value of the course is to cultivate students with correct world outlook, life outlook and values. The goal of the Business School is to cultivate business leaders with business acumen and moral bottom line.

In the beginning of the lesson, Vice Dean Professor Li Jie delivered a speech, he shared three short stories: Firstly, he shared that no matter where you study or work, you should be bold to ask questions in your heart, the problem itself is more important than solving the problem, so we need to develop critical problem thinking and thirst for knowledge, do not evade or avoid, and actively ask questions to help us complete a thing; Secondly, he shared a book by Su Shimin, the leader of the famous enterprise Blackstone Group, "My Experience and Lessons", referring to the experience of this famous person in the beginning of the workplace, telling us that mistakes are often made, do not worry about making mistakes, we need to have the courage to try and make mistakes, it is because of one mistake after another, we can better understand our own shortcomings, get rid of old habits, and form new thinking, thereby improving ourselves, thus growing; Thirdly, he mentioned that during International Week,when the foreign teacher went to the restaurant and forgot to bring the meal voucher and the staff could not cope with it. President Ruan promptly rescued the scene and invited foreign guests to have dinner. President Ruan couldn’t resolved this awkward moment without his advance consideration, which inspired us to form a sense of service when we just entered the university. First of all, we should learn to serve ourselves, that is, plan our own life and study, and then we should learn to serve others and help others , standing in different angles and positions to think, this is the essential spirit of team cooperation. These three stories are small but have great reference significance, we should internalize it in the mind and externalize it in the action.

Afterwards, Party Branch Secretary Ding Zhuoqi connected ideological and political courses with business studies, pointing out that business and ideological and political studies are inseparable, and asked questions at the scene. Students actively answered their understanding of business and ideological and political studies and shared their feelings at the beginning of college. Assistant Professor Ding Zhuoqi provided guidance for students: First is academic strategy(characteristics and challenges of business schools), which includes the importance of business fundamentals, interdisciplinary learning, the importance of case studies and practical applications, time management and priority setting. We need to develop independent thinking and not follow the trend of thinking, in order to improve our comprehensive ability. Second is the core elements of business school students, namely academic ability, critical thinking, practical experience, communication skills, teamwork, ethical awareness, time management,adaptability, global vision,continuous learning, suggest that we should learn to deal with and balance various things in the full and compact college life, based on theory but not only theory, but more importantly practice and action. Only by practice can we comprehend more knowledge outside of books. Therefore, we should study diligently, think and act diligently, open our horizons, face setbacks and difficulties bravely, learn to adjust ourselves, and grow up step by step.

To sum up, a good ideological and political first lesson is like tying the first button of life, which is crucial for every student of the business school. After graduation, we should not only make achievements in the business field, but also become a person who is beneficial to the society, seize the present and face the future at the same time, and prepare for career and life.
