On October 14-15, 2023, Dr. Geoff Perry, Executive Vice President, Global Chief Membership Officer and Managing Director, Asia Pacific, AACSB, Prof. Renee Kim, Associate Dean and Professor of Business School, Hanyang University, South Korea, and Mr. Guodong Xu, Regional Head, East Asia were invited to host a two-day AACSB private training seminar for all faculty and staff members at Business School, SZTU. The seminar focused on AACSB accreditation and how to construct an effective Assurance of Learning (AOL) system. All participants had in-depth discussions during this 2-day seminar.

Founded in 1916, AACSB provides quality assurance, business education intelligence, and learning and development services to over 1,900 member organizations and more than 1,000 accredited business schools worldwide. AACSB’s accreditation processes are ISO 9001:2015 certified. By 2023, there are 48 accredited institutions in mainland China, including five in the Greater Bay Area (The five institutions are (in order of accreditation): Sun Yat-sen University College of Management, Sun Yat-sen University Lingnan (University) College, Jinan University Management School, South China University of Technology School of Business Administration, Shenzhen University College of Management.).
Prof. Holger Haldenwang, Dean of Business School, gave a brief speech to motivate members of the school and to emphasize the strategic significance of the accreditation as well as showing the determination to obtain the accreditation at the beginning of the seminar. The two-day seminar was co-chaired by Dr. Geoff Perry, who focused on the accreditation standards, concepts and logic, and Prof. Renee Kim, who shared concrete methods and school cases.
On the first day, Dr. Geoff Perry gave an in-depth introduction of current development of AACSB accreditation worldwide. He shared an overview of the accreditation process and elaborated on the benefits of obtaining an accreditation. Both guests also gave an in-depth introduction to the AOL system and led activities as well as discussions among school participants.
The second day of the seminar focused on the implementation of the AOL system, such as how courses/modules can be effectively integrated into the degree program, how to obtain relevant data information, how to interpret the data through effective analyses, and how to improve the program based on the results. At the end of the meeting, participants reflected on what’s been learnt and provided their insights and suggestions.

Through the two-day study, our faculty and staff understood fully of how the world-leading business schools are developed. They also gain a systematic view on how to improve the AOL system based on the mission and vision of the school, how to design degree programs, curriculum, and courses/modules, how to transform the school’s vision and mission into effective teaching and learning activities, how to improve the quality of teaching and academic output, and how to develop the competencies of faculty and staff. The seminar has laid a solid foundation for the school to engage in the AACSB accreditation in the coming years.
